More modern than the poem about a man shooting an arrow in the air and looking for where it landed.

Nowadays, a kid would put his cell phone number on the rocket so he would be able to answer the phone without staying home. Red was a kid in the days when you still had to stay home if you were expecting a phone call.

Maybe Rover needs to howl the song of his people into the air.

Now, when the neighbor pulls it out of the hole it made in his windshield, he’ll know where to return it!

Fortunately, I really didn’t have any Estes Rocket mishaps. Most neighbors returned them and thought they were cool as well. BTW, love Rover’s excited face watching the BLAST OFF! Thanks Brian, these Rocket episodes bring back many fond boyhood memories.

All fun and games until one hits the transformer box on the telephone pole and knocks out the neighborhood electric grid.

Love Rover’s expression as the rocket launched—Rover was just as excited about it as Red was!

Years ago, my son made a potato launcher out of PVC pipe. We had a lot of fun launching potatoes, We had a big back yard. When my son wanted to see if he could increase the range, we went to the town rec field. There was nobody there so we started firing. But the police came and told us to leave. Happy memories.

Well, it’s not going very far. Maybe the next block? The last frame has it coming down on a parachute!

    Show this to those cops:

According to the United States National Association of Rocketry (NAR) Safety Code, model rockets are constructed of paper, wood, plastic and other lightweight materials. The code also provides guidelines for motor use, launch site selection, launch methods, launcher placement, recovery system design and deployment and more. Since the early 1960s, a copy of the Model Rocket Safety Code has been provided with most model rocket kits and motors. Despite its inherent association with extremely flammable substances and objects with a pointed tip traveling at high speeds, model rocketry historically has proven to be a very safe hobby and has been credited as a significant source of inspiration for children who eventually become scientists and engineers. This is why rocketeers love wide open spaces. The bigger the rocket, the bigger the space.
