Due to raising my child alone after she was about 4, and doing all the grocery shopping before that anyway, I had to take my child along for all grocery shopping. She was able and more than willing to assist with the weekly menu and sometimes had some pretty good ideas. As she got a little older, she would sometimes wander off in the store, and the cashiers got used to paging her when I was ready to leave. But quite early, she had a say in her own dinners.

Too many kids are like that.

As a kid, I was never like that, neither one of those “slices” of pie. And neither were any of my siblings.
I still do my own cooking — something I learned from helping my mother, — and on the rare occasions when I eat out, it’s never a hamburger.
