“Clarence Thomas has accepted undisclosed luxury trips from GOP megadonor for decades, report says” (cnbc)

Antoine Scalia died during his last all expense paid vacation at an exclusive resort in Texas. Paid for by a group who had an upcoming case before the Supreme Court.

Their lack of morals is the point.

The people appointing guys like Kavanaugh and Scalia and Thomas want the rules to be set by the highest bidder. Any desire to consider the greater good would work against that.

The Supreme Court has lost legitimacy. We can debate about when exactly that happened, but the highest court in the land shouldn’t be a partisan kangaroo court. These justices shouldn’t have political affiliations and they should be tethered to extremely strict rules of procedure and ethics. Any deviation and subsequent punishment overseen by an independent board or committee.

    1) Enact term limits

    2) Enforce ethics standards

    3) Require financial disclosures

    4) Expand the court

    5) Rotate justices

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg disclosed taking more trips than any other justice in 2018, totaling 14. She visited Tel Aviv, Israel where she was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the Genesis Prize Foundation. Shortly following the award ceremony, she disclosed being provided transportation, food and lodging as a tourist and guest of billionaire Israeli businessman Morris Kahn

It is not enough for judges to avoid impropriety, they need to avoid even the appearance of impropriety. And self-policing doesn’t work. There have to be rules, and limits, and ways to enforce them. And the enforcer of the rules needs to be independent of the court, but answerable to a group drawn from the administration and the congress, and possibly some judges. And there absolutely needs to be term limits.

tRump showed openly what conservatives have always practiced, accusing others of what they themselves do. Many of us knew the ‘deep state’ was a conservative entity.

Thomas is so crooked that if he swallowed a nail, he’d spit up a corkscrew.

For the most part, the people above, in trying to “excuse” Thomas, are doing a pretty poor job of it – utilizing false equivalences to counter his extreme corruption…

Thomas has “accepted” free trips for him and his wife that total in the tens of millions of dollars over the last two or three decades, and he’s never declared ANY of it – and the “fact” that OTHERS have done the same (or not) has ABSOLUTELY NO RELAVANCE in this argument at all – he’s a Supreme Court justice and must know that accepting “gifts” of this nature is just plain wrong!

Since the Thomas Santa had no business before the court, it does not appear that any of this was illegal and had to be disclosed. However, for appearances sake alone, no judge should be accepting gifts/trips from anyone even if disclosed.

And let’s not forget, in his opinion on Dobbs, he took aim at birth control and same-sex marriage.

    Not, of course, interracial marriage.
