As a member of the large and varied community of Fountain Pen Enthusiasts, I can say that ink smudges on the fingers are indeed a fact of life (and a badge of honor), but it’s not usual to make that big a mess when filling one’s pen. P.S. If the ink color is Mediterranean Blue, then the ink brand is Diamine.

We are a disposable society. I remember when good pens were treasured. Now everything is disposable. From pens to promises even spouses and children.

Went to Catholic school and Nuns made us use fountain pens. Would have used quills if they could find them. Anyway, ballpoints got real cheap but tools of the devil!! Mothers were peeved with ink stains on shirts and told the Nuns where they could stick their fountain pens en masse!! The Nuns were cowed and we all got to use the devil’s instrument from then on. In hindsight, I think the priests may have had exorcisms on them or something.

The latest arc from Pickles had Earl chewing on his and turning his moustache blue.

Proper use of a fountain pen requires extensive training.
