The techniques are hit-and-miss. At one company, a manager would come in to someone’s office, plop down and talk all day. As senior staff, I would call after maybe ten minutes and ask if they needed a rescue. If they said no, I’d hang up. A yes would have me talking about nothing until the manager left.
You might simply not engage, but it could be fun to insist on repeatedly telling everyone about that family trip to Yellowstone when you were twelve. Don’t let them get a word in, ever.
