Hasn’t Bob been shown to be rather intelligent in the past? Perhaps he understands that if the HOA realizes he’s a duck, the Drabbles will have to get rid of him so he’s keeping up the charade lol

Bob isn’t pretending. He actually IS a rare South American parrot. Who could doubt that — especially in view of his perspicacious philosophical insights? Still water runs deep. When Bob speaks we all well might listen carefully. His wisdom is legendary. Bob is not confused. Bob Zenfully observes what goes on in the world. He keeps his own counsel generally. We could all benefit by Bob’s example. All hail to Bob!!

I’m surprised that the egg laying has never been illustrated by Fagan. All female birds lay eggs as long as they live.
