Football has become so boring. It’s so incredibly and overly officious. It’s like watching 11 lawyers go up against another 11 lawyers in front of 7 judges (with an appellate judge looking on from above). They can’t even agree on what a catch is, and the rules are so complicated they’re rarely applied consistently.
Get rid of the accoutrements that allow players to launch into each other like missiles: hard helmets, face masks, and hard pads. That will require players to actually tackle instead of launching into each other. Simplify the rules so we’re not stopping the game constantly to litigate. (A dozen times per game, plus all the declined calls and plays with more than one call.) Let the players play….no?
No. Because that’s not what fans want. They don’t want to watch players play football. They want the collisions, the violence. Interchangeable gladiators. Hurt one? Bring in another. Bread and circuses.

Oooh bad luck in timing with this, considering the Hamlin tragedy. Best wishes for the Hamlin family.

Omniscient and infallible. The only reason they don’t throw a flag before the play is to show the spectators what they knew was going to happen.
