Produce that is allowed to ripen before being picked is so much better tasting than stuff that is picked before being ripe so it can be transported cross-country without spoiling.
Some grocery store produce is really good, some not good, due to the above reason. I do buy most of my food from grocery stores.

Strawberries that are only half ripe when picked for transport, are never sweet.
