Too bad that the SCOTUS made the decision that corporatocracy’s needs were more important than the people’s needs [Citizen’s United]. We could have been free of old money’s privately held fossil fuel assets by now and not concerned about what OPEC is doing. Only 10% of US energy is from renewable sources and we’re still catering to the highly profitable oil barons and their privately held assets. Maybe it’s too hard to see from the inside that the Republican leadership favors the wealthy over the people by working against progress.
Yet another totalitarian government the U.S. supports because they oppose another enemy, Iran. But they’re not our friend as evidenced by 9/11 and other acts inimicable to U.S. interests.
They really are in a position I don’t envy. Their economy is based on oil, totally and they have become used to living royally on the profits. Oil is becoming an obsolete product- not tomorrow, but steadily and certainly. At some point, they are going to be sitting on an underground ocean of nasty black stuff and wishing that it was water. It is only logical to get as much for it as they can while they can. The flipside, however, is that the more the charge now the sooner it becomes worthless.

Can’t really blame them for maximizing profits. We taught them that.

They’re being told another recession is on the way and remember they didn’t make enough profits during the pandemic, so they are making up for it.

Time to stop providing military aid to them. Time to stop using the Navy to protect their tankers.

Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries = OPEC
The rest of the world should form the Organisation of Fuel Using Countries but I can’t think of an acronym.
