The homeless problem first became apparent back in the early ’80’s when Regan cut taxes for the wealthy, while reducing governmental aid to care for those unable to fend for themselves, while at the same time the Supreme Court ruled (and I agreed at the time) that the system could not hold folks who were or seemed capable (while taking their meds). Thus the demise of institutions like Napa State Hospital, throwing them out on the street. I first noticed the homeless in San Francisco near the Civic Center when I attended trade shows. It has spread, with the closing of Single Room Occupancy Hotels, there are fewer places that are affordable for them who needs it.Every city has this problem, its country wide.We will have to tax ourselves, yes even you folks who live outside of cities Well need to join in, to provide shelter for our less capable. I see no other answer.
Mister Breen I would be curious to hear you tell the history of how Trump and Giuliani have treated the homeless in the past and especially how Giuliani treated the homeless after 9/11 when the city and the nation needed to look out for each other the most. Can you please do that sir? I will wait
When it comes to helping the Democrats meet the needs of the American people, the Republican Party are instead more of the “let me stomp on your toes and take away your crutches so I can complain to everyone you can’t walk” kind of people.
They do nothing to help anyone when they have the power, then obstruct when the Democrats have some power for fear that letting the Dems have credit for something good will hurt the Republicans.
‘We don’t have a place to go’: Clearing out the Bay Area’s two largest homeless encampments
The closure of the camps – one by the San Jose airport and one off Wood Street in West Oakland – is part of a regionwide push to crack down on encampments that were allowed to grow while people sheltered in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. Local officials, state agencies and even Gov. Gavin Newsom say shutting the sprawling, often unsanitary camps is necessary to protect public health and safety. But the process in both cities has been fraught, peppered with everything from lawsuits and protests to a train collision.
Oh, Mr. Breen: If homelessness is California’s only problem, your state is benefitting from Democratic policies beautifully. Just turn all that excess Dem energy to solving homelessness.
Lotsof reasons for CA homelessness, including that the climate is generally mild, especially in SoCal, so if people are homeless they get themselves to CA if at all possible. I haven’t checked it recently, but it used to be that the residency requirements were relatively short for collecting unemployment, and the payments were higher than the national average. Finally, many previously housed people lost their jobs during COVID and when the eviction restrictions ended, these folks were turned out of their homes. Unclear how this situation could be blamed exclusively on Democrats, unless of course you’re using MAGAat logic.
The largest state in the nation has the largest homeless population! Oh, no! And it has great weather, which attracts a lot of homeless people from other states. And the state itself tries to provide the support services that population needs. Oh, the humanity!
The Family Values and Nationalist (always beware of that word people!) Christian party should simply choke on the words of Christ who said that which you do to the least…
Washington & Oregon are battling to see you can come in second! Washington has $$$1.5 billion surplus Democrats refuse to give tax breaks to it’s citizens
Also democrats give illegals aliens + $3500 to helps them out!! It’s proven that 60% of homeless folks are veterans why not stop giving that $$3500 to illegals give it to veterans!!!!!
Other than “Get a job!” I have not heard many Con proposals to solve the homeless problem. They are forever sneering at the problems in big cities but never have an answer as to why the majority of those living in such concentrated situations vote for what the GOP has to offer. It is easy to criticize and saves one from actually having to do anything positive.

Try to do anything, and the Republicans will block it.

Imagine that. The state with the largest population also has a large number of homeless people. Who ’da thunk it!

Tough problem. Any GQPers have any ideas?

Right now, I’ll bet that the formerly-in-Florida homeless are thankful that the Florida politicians forced them to relocate to California.
