There was federal money allocated to Mississippi water. It was hijacked by Republicans.

Mississippi had the money, the Governor chose not to include those neighborhoods in receiving that money. Mississippi is a leach state, in that it takes in more federal money than it pays out.

Maybe if Mississippi had a Democratic Governor who would actually use federal funds for something other than anti-choice propaganda and lining his donors pockets?

I’m thinking that if republicans embraced taxation as a good thing and red states had higher taxes, investments can be made in infrastructure, like water. There are many places in the US that need serious water infrastructure fixed.

So? Different pots of money, one has no limit, the other kind of has.

This country isn’t perfect so we can’t help anyone anywhere else.

I suppose we should have ceded Europe to the Nazis as well. After all, we had our own domestic needs to tend to.

Jackson’s water crisis is the consequence of decades of underfunded infrastructure and state government indifference to a problem in a city (albeit their state’s capital) that is now 80% African-American. The federal government may have to pay for much-needed water system improvements because the white-ruled state government just doesn’t give a rat’s patootie. This sad situation hardly compares with our overseas aid to a democratic government and a well-educated population facing an existential threat from a madman bent on creating as much human misery (in both Russia and Ukraine, if not it much of Europe, the Middle East and Africa) as he can.

These America Firsters always lead us into a world war.

Worked in the DC area for nine years. When DC had to file for bankruptcy. DC was in such bad straits that they rented out their city hall and moved to cheaper quarters they owned. Bankruptcy court assigned a committee to take over the government functions. DC government is mainly funded by two sources — taxes and in lieu of taxes funds from the federal government. The in lieu of taxes funding makes up for the federal government owning so much of DC’s territory (Capitol building complex, White House complex and so much other real estate). BTW, federal government does the same for states where large amounts of government owned real estate deny states the revenue. In a few years, the bankruptcy committee paid off the debts, allowing the city government to move back into their City Hall. Solved their water treatment problems and funded the police so the streets were once more safe before the DC government could once more the manage the city. Unfortunately, DC went back to their former ways. The school heating systems were found to be deficient. Federal government sent the Army Corps of Engineers in to replace all the heating systems. After a very few years, the heating systems broke down again. City government neglected to spend about $1,000 per system annually to maintain the systems.

War’s where the money is…………..infrastructure doesn’t make a profit, so why do it?

Least that’s been the policy for the last forty neoliberal years.

Hey, what can I say? Ukraine just has its act together better than Mississippi.
