Amazingly, the same people who want to turn a swarthy middle-eastern rebel preaching against the established political and religious order like Jesus into a European white-skinned icon are shocked — shocked! — that a fictional FANTASY could be presented as any color but their own. For goddess’ sakes, the Little Mermaid, elves in the Lord of the Rings prequel or Targaryen dragon-riders in the House of the Dragon are MAKE-BELIEVE — they can be any color human imagination can conceive.

Of course Republican governors of Texas or Florida would feel compelled to ship such an “alien” creature off to somewhere else. We in California would welcome a lovely mermaid, whatever the color, as we welcome other productive contributors.

DeSantis’s family came here from Italy, penniless, escaping oppression, hoping to find a better life. Thanks to the America they arrived in, they were able to achieve the American dream, and their descendant, Ron DeSantis is living proof that promise was kept. So why is Ron DeSantis, hoping to be a candidate for president, so angry and down on immigrants? Is it all because they don’t come from Italy? Is it because out country is “full” as 45 claimed? Is it because they are not white christian nationalists? Why?

We actually need about 2 million immigrants a year to sustain our economy. Have you heard about the shortage of workers? Yes, many of those jobs are exactly the jobs immigrant workers, hoping for a better life, would fill.
