Hereditary monarchy: a system by which one inherits wealth and prestige solely by an accident of birth, with absolutely no regard for qualifications, with a long history of colonialism, imperialism and oppression, made worse by orders of magnitude for indigenous non-white peoples.

By all accounts, it seems that Elizabeth II evolved from a bigoted middle-aged matron (who blocked Charles from marrying the love of his life, Camilla, because she had been previously married [shades of Wallis Simpson!] and insisted he marry a virgin [yes, they inspected] whose life she then made intolerable, while she also harbored another pedophile son, Prince Andrew) and developed into an amicable, gracious old lady who eventually, however begrudgingly, welcomed Camilla and later Meghan Markle (whose racial and prior marital status would have been unthinkable a few decades earlier).

English history is shockingly interesting….the goings on have happened to every monarchy, not only English….the lust, greed, murders, etc….

May she RIP. However, while I certainly understand the desire to honor the woman (a bit less understanding as to why Americans do so), in terms of actual impact on history, the recently deceased Mikhail Gorbachev deserves far more attention.

Poor Diana. She was basically the Royal Uterus. She was brought in for breeding purposes only. Line of succession and all that. She deserved better.
