Fifty years ago the polls had 1 in 5 Americans supporting George Wallace for president campaigning on a return to segregation platform, we were averaging 5 domestic bombings a day from leftist groups, unemployment was 6%, two Americans were dying each day in Vietnam, and the word “gate” was soon to be added to every political problem thereafter. America survived then, America will survive now.
I’ll answer about climate change: I have been following the saga of Tangier Island, which is located in the Cheapeake Bay between the east coast of Virginia and the Eastern Shore.
A few years ago, I read about how people were trying to convince the residents about the dangers of sinking into the bay without damaging their fragile feelings that climate change was a hoax. Of course, it was a fool’s errand.
Today’s Washington Post has an article about the same island, which now is basically an archipelago, since there is so much water dividing sections of the former single island. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Rep. Elaine Luria (D-Virginia Beach) have visited the island and the local officials there to pitch an idea to spend $25 million (as a start) to take muck that is raked up to improve shipping channels to raise the land’s level to, at best, slow its descent into the bay.
90% of their voters voted for Trump. The mayor of one town met the two legislators wearing a MAGA hat and a Trump shirt. So let’s get this straight: people who hate the government and love Trump will believe that their sinking island has nothing to do with climate change, but they’re more than willing to demand the government fix what they insist on ignoring. And if they get that money, and if the plan works, will they vote for Mr. Kaine? Try not to let your drink spill out your nose….
Instead of rising up against the Washington establishment like some did Jan 6, we should ALL rise up, go to the voting booths (while most of us still can), vote out all incumbents, put forth a referendum (s) to take the money out of our political system. Elect, or re-elect those who promise to support those referendums and try to make a fresh start. (I know, I’m dreaming!)
Simple, setup a primary base election system that rewards the more extreme elements of each party and doesn’t reward compromise, then gradually move mainstream media in that direction too (yes, Fox News is mainstream media). I know this is sacrilegious among my liberal cohorts, but frankly everyone should act more like Joe Manchin, following the party for the majority of the time and then not supporting items that you believe your constituents won’t like (as in all your constituents, not just the ones voting in your primary)

But… it’s a hoax! Just like ever increasing wealth inequality!
Therefore, it’s not happening.
As you were. Carry on.

Wait, 2 adult pieces in a row, Stantis? This has to be hurting you. You’ll probably have to post something about Hillary next time.

Jim Inhofe continues to serve in the US Senate. That’s one of many answers to the question posed in the last panel.

Scott does an editorial Cartoon regarding climate change and not one comment specifically uses those words in their comments.
