Or to transplant the antebellum South to our time — that way preserves the existence of “AR” style firearms, tarted-up fo’-buh-fo’s, right-wing “social” media, and all the other MAGAt accouterments.
Time to take money out of politics. You get a set amount of $$ from the government to campaign with, allowing no outside money at all as well as barring dark money groups from airing “sympathetic” ads. There’s a set campaign season of 3 months, so if you’re in Congress you’re no longer spending more time on getting reelected than you are on doing the job you were elected for. NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, Fox, etc all have to carry presidential debates and their local affiliates have to carry district and state debates as well. I’d rather see $100 mil in taxes spent rather than corporations and nefarious ideologues spending $100 Bil and expecting a return on their “investment”.
Please excuse the repost: Here’s the Republican “platform.” They won’t write it down because too many voters might read it, so I did it for them.
Despite being in the minority, members of the SCOTUS, “Conservatives,” RWNJs, and white supremacists are attempting to drag this country back to their imaginary Jeffersonian agrarian idyl. The 1790 census (when Jefferson was Secretary of State), counted 5.3M Americans. Only white males owning 50 acres or more of land were permitted to vote, approximately 6% of the population. Free white men who did not own land, free white females, and slaves could not vote.
In 1790 the American population was largely rural, making a living by farming. Our most recent census counted 332,403,650 Americans. Current estimates are that 83% of Americans live in urban areas. They do not work at farming.
In pursuit of “small government,” the following are conservatives’ goals for their Jeffersonian America: 1. No women’s rights. 2. No civil rights for people of color, or for any other minority groups. 3. No immigration, other than Caucasians. 4. No labor unions. 5. No health insurance. 6. No legal recourse due to Republican-packed courts. 7. No social security. 8. No disability insurance. 9. No minimum wage. 10. No free and fair elections (ultimately, no elections). 11. Imposed state religion; government funding of religious schools. 12. Unregulated militias unchecked by Republican-packed courts. 13. No work on mitigating climate change; no environmental protections. 14. No free press. Continued…
GOP politicians don’t care about the environment or mitigating climate change because they intend to stay permanently in office and use their money and power to take over remaining livable locations as environmental conditions worsen. Republican leaders don’t care if America dies as long as they can feed off the carcass for their lifetimes.
How many Americans would have to die or be virtually enslaved in jobs with less than living wages for this “platform” to work? Why do you people who support today’s GOP, Trump, and Trump wannabes think that you will come out winners under this regime?
It has long puzzled me the amount of money wealthy jerks will put into politicians that would have been better spent paying their honest share in taxes. Oh, right, honesty is not their strong point.
Hmm…I tend to think of Brandon as the current president. I hope the courts continue to rule in favor of his policies. If I were he I’d make a point of embracing Brandon. Make a speech carried on all media announcing, “I am Brandon and I am proud of it.”
These people calling themselves “Federalists” would be like me starting a Ford society w/ 2 Chevys in my garage, or a cat lover’s society having owned 5 dogs but 0 cats.
(Actually I did own one cat 1/2 century ago. My children named him “Bootsie” but I called him “Lynnerd Skynnerd” ’cause he was always trying to get 3 steps towards the door.)
Still trying to figure out how Uber Catholic Thomas got away with divorcing his african-Amwrican wife and marrying Ginny. I doubt he’d have lasted long in the Antebellum South
“wish in one hand and shi! in the other and see which one fills up first”The amount of $ given to political campaigns could have "probably’ cured cancer and mental illness by now. oh shi!
