The Emperor Xi wants the “reunification” of Taiwan as part of his legacy. Pelosi’s visit has not changed that fact — unfortunately. The question is only when does he do a Putin not if he will.
One thing Xi has done is to encourage Taiwanese to more actively consider the defense of the island. Even with military superiority, taking an island is not cheap. Some things the Ukraine war has highlighted include that warships are vulnerable to attack by missiles — and troop transports will be even more so. And that helicopters are also easily taken down, so bringing assault troops by air could be problematic.
