I honestly cannot remember the last time I went to a grocery story that didn’t have an automatic door. In fact, I don’t recall ever going to a grocery story that didn’t have an automatic door; the only difference between when I was little and now is that nowadays all the doors of the stores I go to are sliding doors, whereas in the past some of them had swinging doors.
There was a Far Side cartoon once that showed a kid trying to get into a building that housed an organization in the same vein as Mensa. The sign on the door said (in huge letters) ‘PULL TO OPEN’.
