Oh, yeah, the very same people who can’t be trusted to talk to kids about gender differences, poverty, or racism; or who are too incompetent to bargain for their own wages and working conditions; or who are too inept to be able to pick out the textbooks they’ll be teaching from — sure, those are the very people we want to provide with lethal weapons, no training, and lots of wishes for good luck.

Of the 250 plus mass shootings this year, how many were stopped by “a good guy with a gun”? Not a cop, mind you, but just some bystander. No many, right? Because average bystanders are not trained to deal with these high-pressure, high stakes situations. People freeze. The cops freeze more than you’d imagine, and they are trained.

Besides, if guns made us safer, we should be the safest country in the world. And yet, for some strange reason, we have more guns per person than any other country AND more gun deaths than any other country not at war. Weird, huh?

This poll says it all. NO credibility on the issue.

Many poor children in the U.S. go to school without enough to eat. For years American conservatives have opposed such commonsense measures as providing free breakfasts and lunches for the poorest students.

Now there seem to be many on the right who want teachers to be armed. Is arming teachers more important than feeding hungry students?

“Teacher, I can’t concentrate when I haven’t had breakfast or lunch today”

“Sorry, Pupil, there is no food here. The Republicans sent us guns instead”

    “Yummy!”

Anyone who is aware of the statistics can confidently deny that “guns ensure our safety,” since the opposite has been shown to be the case across several decades now.

I think E and Sammy should get a motel room, since they like each other’s comments so much.

definitely, arm as many teachers as possible (maybe take the funding from the band and art classes?) so that we can have constant ok corral style shootouts in schools for more excitement in the evening news…

Think about it. When cops finally break into a school and see someone in the hallway who is obviously armed, are they going to stop and ask “are you a teacher or the killer?” Would you? Also, When cops break into a school, they have body armor, face shields, helmets, the works. What is one teacher with a .38 pistol going to have besides that gun? And how often should she go to the firing range before she’s good enough to kill someone shooting at her?

Did you know that the famous (or infamous) hand gun maker Glock categorizes its weapons by the amount of flesh a bullet from the weapon will penetrate? From the Economist: "A salesman for Glock, a manufacturer of handguns, categorised his pistols according to the amount of flesh they penetrate: 20 inches (51cm), in the case of the Glock g40, priced at $750. "
