NATIONAL MINT JULEP DAY
Paint The House Day. Okay, I made that one up. My brother, Joe, and sister, Mary, are coming in the morning to help me finish painting my house. There isn’t a lot of painting left to do. I need Joe to do the high part because I don’t feel comfortable too high up on a ladder. I can handle a step ladder just fine, but painting the second story of the house is a little higher than I like to go. So he can do the high part while we do the low part. I don’t know how high Mary would go on a ladder. And as long as Mary is here, it will also be:
Pick Rhubarb Day. Mary loves rhubarb. So do I, but I still have plenty left from my last picking. So today, I’ll pick it again and let her take home as much as she wants. She can have all of it if she wants it all (and I suspect she will) that’s okay, I’ll be able to pick more later. Mary hopes to leave here by 3:00 to hopefully beat the worst of the holiday traffic (she lives about 2 and a half hours away in Palatine, IL). So, if Mary leaves that early, it will also be:
Work In The Garden Day. I’ll get out in the garden and do some weeding and I’ll put up the new bird bath that I bought a couple days ago. Seeing all those birds at Mark’s bird feeder got me to thinking that they could use water to drink, too. So I got a cheap bird bath at Menard’s and I’ll put it at the edge of my garden.
So, my day is planned out. Hope it doesn’t rain! No rain in the forecast.
Hearing &*%$@# loud noise outside my bedroom window…constant noise
I went outside and stood in front of a neighbor’s house 2 doors over.
He was using, non-stop, an air compressor to remove flaked paint off his steel porch steps.
He acknowledged my presence and said sweetly too loud? I began : ‘it being Memorial Day….’ and he cut me off and said ’Okay, enough scolding’ to shut me up. In any case the noise immediately stopped. He is not the homeowner but someone who works for him.
My nice next-door neighbor e-mailed me minutes later:
“Dear Jean,
Thank you for speaking to Steve.
It is so very upsetting to all of us that we are, once again, with another “Kenny” who does not respect the holidays and weekends, and especially Memorial Day.
I was so upset myself that I dare not go out there. I would have lost my temper.
Oh, come on, it can’t be Oliver. He must have been framed. Even if he did do it, he probably meant well. On another note, saw eleven robins, two hermit thrushes, two rabbits, a spotted towhee, and two Wilson’s warblers while out walking today.
hi gang -I have no idea who Mr. Tisdale or Mr. Wallace is, either -it is an earlier strip, and I have no idea were I was going with this or who was coming along !Graham
I have been craving pizza all day because of this strip. I can’t remember the last time I had pizza — the best place around me lost their lease and closed. It got quite nasty, with petitions and such, but it’s a done deal. They’re gone.
