Ghosts are peculiar in other ways, too. They make sounds (gibbering and squeaking, according to the ancient Romans) and are able to pass through walls while at the same time making stairsteps creak and slamming doors. Some apparently are willing to have sex with regular humans. Doesn’t exactly add up to a consistent whole, as T-Rex notes.
You’re walking through a creepy old house. Suddenly, the temperature drops. You begin shivering. Then a ghost appears!! Rather that screaming and running, you ask the ghost, “Are you powered by environmental energy? Is that why it’s so cold in here?”
