Each species of cephalopod produces slightly differently coloured inks; generally, octopuses produce black ink, squid ink is blue-black, and cuttlefish ink is a shade of brown.
No better way to ruin something than to overthink it, especially pedantically. Squid or no squid, the joke is obvious, and I got it almost immediately.

Doesn’t look like a squid. Looks more like an octopus. Which makes the joke harder to sort out.
