I have seen many chihuahua owners walk by in cool or cold weather in jackets while their leashed little dog is bare and shivering. Some breeds can not handle cold. Bundle them up or keep them inside. As a chihuahua owner in an old unheated farmhouse built in the 1920s, I have to take extra measures to keep 14-year-old “Taffy” warm and healthy.

I always sympathize with Iggy in the winter strips. He’s usually in a bed of his own with a blanket wrapped around him. If there’s a fireplace, use it. Kenny can stay in the furthest reaches, and Iggy & Will can huddle in front of whatever fire is lit for as long as it stays warm.

My thermostat never changes, but the remarks range from “it’s freezing in here” to “is the A/C working?” This happens several times per day.

Even when the temp is in the upper 80s, low 90s, my dachshund is under his fleece blanket.

I use to have Huskies, which could come in and out by doggy door and in the winter I’d go out and there would be mounds of snow and when they heard my voice they would pop up from those mounds …….. :)
