Once, back in the late 60s in Austin, TX, there was a cricket invasion. They were so thick that walking to the 7-11 was horrifying crunch fest. I worked in the state capitol. Hordes got trapped under the elevators. They died, janitorial sprayed and you couldn’t breathe in there for a week.

When I was young, a cricket made its home in my parents’ basement. It was kinda fun to hear it chirping.
One time, my father nearly stomped it, but I stopped him. “It’s our cricket!” I said. It then lived out its life peacefully.

My mom thought there was a cricket in the house when the smoke alarm was notifying us that the battery was low. :-)

It’s not fun or loveable at all when you have even just one somewhere in your bedroom and you’re trying to sleep
