    I cannot disagree. IF the GOP has a policy, which I guess they do even though it’s not written or codified, it is the destruction of the US constitutional democracy.

    Under authority from the original text of the Constitution that endows the states with the responsibility for managing elections, but gives final authority to the federal government to establish standards for federal elections, and the enabling clauses (enumerated powers to set regulations) in the amendments that gave the right to vote to African Americans, women, all adults age 18 and over and prohibited poll taxes or other means of excluding eligible voters, here is what the Freedom to Vote Act, written by Joe Manchin as a compromise proposal, actually includes:

    • Makes Election Day a federal holiday

    • Limits gerrymandering

    • Requires states to allow 15 days of early voting (including two weekends)

    • Expands automatic voter registration and election same-day registration

    • Ballot integrity with national standard for verified paper ballots

    • National voter ID standard including ease of documentation

    • Requires voting machines to be manufactured in the United States

    • Security and protection for nonpartisan election officials from partisan interference

    • Shines a light on dark money

    • Makes it harder for billionaires and special interests to buy elections

    These provisions protect the right to vote for all eligible voters but only eligible voters and ensure a paper trail for later audits and verification. These provisions ensure election integrity which is what terrifies Republicans who know THEY CANNOT WIN ELECTIONS IF HONEST TURNOUT IS ENSURED.

    All fifty Democratic senators support this bill. The only thing obstructing its passage is the sixty vote threshold required by the filibuster unless some kind of exception, carve-out or other reform is allowed to protect the sacred right to vote as we do for budget matters.

    Numerous Congressional races will be in play. Several Republicans who voted to impeach and to convict Trump on his 2nd impeachment have already announced they are not seeking re-election. But, as always, be sure to bone up on local and state elections, they are very influential over daily things.

    First, take over all the courts by packing them with partisan toadies. Then we can control the electoral processes . Next, gerrymander all the voting districts, then we can control the election outcomes. With our majority controlled House and minority controlled Senate, we can control the legislative outcomes. After those actions are completed, control the press. Then we can smother all opposition and manage the opinions of our electorate. We will use their prejudices and ignorance to take over the education system. Next step … hell’s bells, there ain’t no “next step”.

    During a rally on Saturday in Florence, Arizona, former President Donald Trump said no Republican will ever get elected if Senate Democrats pass their voting rights bill, which seeks to standardize voting election laws across the country and expand voting access.

    The former president was referring to the “Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act,” a combination of two separate voting rights bills that were rolled into one during their passage in the House of Representatives on Thursday.

    Under the bill, several requirements related to election administration, redistricting, and campaign finance would be instated, including:Declaring Election Day as a federal holiday. Restoring voting rights to formerly incarcerated people convicted of felonies. Prohibiting partisan gerrymandering by requiring states to use criteria when drawing new congressional districts. Creating more protections and allocating resources to serve voters with disabilities and overseas/military voters. Accepting a wide range of forms of non-photographic identification in places where ID is required to vote.

    The other day, I looked at a website listing the 28 worst presidents, from the last to the first.

    I couldn’t believe that Trump was #4. If anyone deserves to be #1, it’s the Orange Baboon!

    The #1 “honor” went to James Buchanan—a totally forgotten man.
