There is a supermarket in Philadelphia’s University City neighborhood in which the produce manager would regularly juggle oranges to attract attention to produce sales. Now THAT’S worth writing about!
Heart, if you really want to impress your pen pal, just be yourself! …Pfft! Embellish, exaggerate, LIE! Tell them you’ve been noticing people walking around with antennae that only you can see, or that mysterious graffiti has been spotted that seems to link to an ancient ritual. If they call you out on it, never write them again.
Maintenance isn’t about fun it is about doing needful things. Like wiping your ass and brushing your teeth. Needs to be done. Life is not just about fun.
We briefly hosted a couple of French high school students. We picked them up in Denver on a Saturday morning, drove home to Cheyenne, and ate lunch. Having missed buying groceries at her usual time, my wife went that afternoon, and they jumped at the chance to go with her and experience that bit of American life (ironically freeing the TV so I could watch Moulin Rouge [Jose Ferrer version]; they’d been watching Rocky [speaking of Philly].)
