That song has a soft spot in my heart, even though it was released a little before my time.
In October 2004, my wife and I took our ten-year-old daughter to Wildwood, NJ for a Rock ’n Roll Oldies Convention. The convention included the dedication of a plaque commemorating the introduction of the song “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley and the Comets at a Wildwood hotel, 50 years earlier. Haley had passed away in 1981, only 55 years old, but his granddaughter was there with her son, then about eight years old. And the Comets were there. We met them, got some great pictures of them and got their autographs.
And our daughter — an avid hula-hooper — was the co-winner of a hula-hooping contest.

At least they aren’t sitting on their behinds and staring at a TV just because it’s there, and their parents taught them to do that years ago.
