We didn’t have slides when I was a kid. We’d just climb up onto the roof of the garage and then jump. Things were a bit better in the Fall when my Dad raked the leaves into a pile first.

They got rid of the slides in the playground when I was young.

We did have some serious tall ones. I guess they figured kids bounce well.

I have a painful memory of coming down a tall wooden slide, right after a kid who had ridden a sheet of wax paper. Landed on hard ground. Not fun.

The FAA called. Your slide is so high, it’s required to have lights.

We had a huge slide in Westmount Park in the late 40’s. Wasn’t a favourite, but I think I tried it once. More fun to take sailboat to big pool.

Nowadays, kids are more adventurous. When I take my grandson to the playground, the slides aren’t so high, but the kids are all using the equipment in ways that weren’t intended. Climbing up instead of sliding down, climbing on the back side of the equipment, and so forth.

Nothing like a hot blacktop and red-hot metal sky-scraping slide to teach you to hate recess.

The shiny metal slide at my elementary school was an educational device. It only took one attempt to try to slide on a 90° sunny day while wearing shorts for that lesson to be learned.

Ah the pleasure of going down a metal slide in your shorts, on a hot sunny day.

We kids in this part of Alabama didn’t have slides. We would jump out of the hay loft in the barn into a pile of hay!
