Why oh why, must we always be crisis-driven, with costly obstructions/delays in acting that only serve to intensify/strengthen the problems and exasperate expert problem-solvers?
Governments have problems resolving simple issues (as do many businesses, make no mistake). Transitioning to completely green energy systems worldwide involves incredibly complex changes. Nations heavily dependent on fossil fuels (Mainland China, India, Indonesia/Australia/Russia) which earn large amounts of foreign revenue selling such fuels or using them for energy/steel/concrete production need viable alternatives before switching.

Diplomacy / politics deals with an unfortunate reality that humans talk bigger than they act. Particularly when they feel pressured to agree.

“Foggy Days in Glasgow Town” could have been the theme song (Apology to Gershwin).

It’s so “foggy” in Beijing today that you can’t see more than a few hundred yards, and the tops of the buildings are behind smogbanks.
But China didn’t attend the COP26 because they have nothing to contribute to the the effort to rein back climate change.

It’s the polluted atmosphere, resulting from fossil fuel burring, that makes the future “foggy”.

The COVID pandemic was a good start towards net zero, but was thwarted by science.. There’s a good chance that by mid century science won’t rescue us.

Without fossil fuels, we would all be naked, hungry and cold.
