Top expert on California’s atmospheric rivers: ‘It can break the drought’
It’s unclear at this point where the bull’s-eye of the storm will dump the most rain, but forecasters agree it will likely be anywhere from far Northern California to Central California, with the San Francisco Bay Area being impacted. The wettest spots could see up to a foot of rain.
Still, despite the danger, the rain and snow will be welcome across drought-plagued areas of the West. As of Thursday’s U.S. Drought Monitor, nearly 92% of the western U.S. is in some level of drought. The rain will help stop smoldering wildfires and could ease water restrictions on farmers.
A ‘monster’ coming this weekend: Bomb cyclone, atmospheric river to blast western US:
Moderate to heavy rain fell across Northern California on Friday, heading into a weekend expected to bring increasingly stormy weather to the drought-stricken state while also raising concerns about flash flooding in vast areas scorched by wildfires.
A flood warning was posted in part of Siskiyou County bordering Oregon, where “law local law enforcement reported debris flow and flooding on roadway from excessive runoff,” according to the National Weather Service’s office in Medford, Oregon.
After 2 + Months the Caldor Fire was declared 100% contained today. Now we stress over Mud Slides & Debris Flows. California is a Land of Extremes. Now our 500,000 Homeless about to get Soggy.
