9 apples, 8 students in panel 2. Does that mean the extra goes to Teacher? And why is Diane so selfish that she keeps 3 for herself? Boo, Diane. Boo! Boo math-haters. Boo!

I love the way this strip realistically portrays life in an elementary school!

I love how Wallace jumps up into a great humble, yet remembering the people who got him there, type pose. This kids great.

There was a TV show when I was a kid, where the person would look through a mirror and name all the kids she could “see”; I don’t think I ever heard my name, though I anxiously waited for it every time!

There seems to be a game of musical desks going on in the last panel.

Yup. I remember things like this happening in grade school all right, where someone in a schoolbook has the same name as someone else in the class. Always seemed like such a big deal to us kids at the time, but really does seem trivial now as an adult. :P

The teacher didn’t finish. 3/4 of the 12 apples or 3/4 of one apple? If the latter, it’s not very generous…

Ha, this was 3rd grade, when one of my friends’ name was mentioned in one book.

I remember a girl in elementary school named Rachel. Me: “My name is in this book we’re reading.”

Her: “Well my name is in the bible”

I used to see those readymade labels and keychains and things with various names on them in stores. They seem to be less prevalent now. More and more American children are given old names with grotesquely mangled, excuse me nonstandard spellings, it would be hard for many of them to find their version on the rack. How sad for them to go through life correcting people’s wrong misspellings of their names. “Actually it’s Wawliss.”

It was always fun when a classmate’s name popped up in an example. Doesn’t happen too often.
