Is this “Getting diverse because dibest ain’t wanting to work there?”
Two thoughts.
One: What was “diverse” 50 years ago? Probably several blacks, a Hispanic and a token woman or two (I have no idea, really)… and maybe someone whose parents came from Asia somewhere. There were a lot of Jews and Christians and not very many “other”… or I miss my guess. And “diverse” now is a the color of a very different horse. This is one form of the “fallacy of infinite comparability”.
And two: Airing diverse points of view was in fact one of the things that made Nyorker great. But in my observation, very few of those POVs were right wing. And certainly not what we would call right wing today. Is that good for diversity? I’m not sure, really: Being collegial with folks who have drunk the Qoolade seems likely to lead to no good thing.
What’s the gripe about? The only thing they seem to have in common besides journalism is graduating from prestigious schools, and I don’t have an issue with that…
That group is less diverse than the Left Mob here in the Funny Papers. Barely… BTW what does CIS mean to you guys ? I’m not up on these Pronouns if that’s even what they are called ?

But as Ted appears to suggest here, the “diversity” is no more than sprinkled on an essentialist class insularity, self-importance, and triviality.

Maybe it’s their cartoonists that are diverse? Or maybe Ted just wishes they would publish him?

How come they all think alike, regardless of diversity claims?

“diverse” 50 years ago: some with beards, some with mustaches, some with both.

Everything but what counts – CLASS.

Why does the New Yorker have to be diverse? If you’re looking for other voices, read other magazines.

Just not socioeconomically diverse.

That’s a rather unlikely application to work as the New Yorker cartoonist.

Is Rall’s opinion of this “alarming” situation really that important?

Well worth reading, imo.
