On Prickly City, the saccharine overload is often overwhelming.

Maher often rails against the young, sometimes unfairly, but sometimes spot on. White liberal left youth see what we haven’t done and despair, those of us with scars from the 60’s recognize accomplishments and resolve to continue. Non-whites roll their eyes at some of the outlandish tactics of the young.

Edsall quotes some interesting research on non-white defections to Trump, mystifying as that is. Lopez argues that the best way to defuse divisive racial issues is to explicitly portray such tactics as “a divide-and-conquer strategy.” The basic idea, Lopez wrote, is to shift the basic political conflict in the United States from one between racial groups (the right’s preferred frame) to one between the 0.1 percent and the rest of us, with racism as their principal weapon. In our research, this race-class fusion politics is the most promising route forward for Democrats. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/13/opinion/david-shor-biden-democrats.html

Could that be the hand of a white Republican in Congress up for re-election that Trump has deemed unworthy?

The “conservative” character would never welcome an asylum seeker. They’d just kidnap their kids and put them in a cage.

Wonder if this is Stantis take on the incoming Afghan refugees? Nah, can’t be, the GQP is screaming against letting any of them in. (according to the GQP only white European immigrants need apply)

The head of the Oklahoma GQP is one of the party leaders who is really screaming about immigrants, especially from areas where Islam is the major religion. Funny how not a single state wide GQP office holder, or any of the OK congressional members has breathed a single word against his fascist blather. then again, the OK GQP voted for him.

Are you willing to work hard? Did you show you can extend effort, and are dedicated to improving your lot, by making the arduous trip here? Then you are exactly the sort of motivated person your homeland needs – stay home and devote your energies and efforts into making your country a better place.

If only it were that easy. Hard work is not respected by hurricanes and earthquakes…

Morons who complain that the people who are willing to strive for a better life should go away would condemn the country to decline. According to them, everyone who built the foundations of America should have gone away. We should be a country of trailer parks.

Actually, if they had their way, Native Americans probably would have won the Indian wars…

Two counter-measures must be taken immediately. First, no Chinese money can be ever be allowed into the states to finance their subversive efforts. Second, no U.S. funds may be given to pro-communist organizations like 90 percent of our colleges and universities. Third, we need entirely new social networks. And fourth, we must understand that any donation to the Democrat Party is a donation to communist China. L. Neil Smith 2020

This is one of their alternate points-of-view.
