My mother-in-law had lived in her house for 50 years when she had to sell and move to a senior care facility. I went through the house and took pictures of all the rooms and the outside and put them in an album for her. She really appreciated it. Lot of memories there.
We once bought a house from a woman in her 90s and her family – she had moved into the brand-new house as a newlywed in the 1920s! All of her children were born in the house, and one of them lived around the corner. They gave us photos of the house and their family over the years, and we gave them photos to share with their mom as we remodeled. We felt so honored to share in the history of the house.
Our “family” home owned by my Grandparents and lived in off and on by my Mom and Dad as well as me was sold by my Mom when it was time for her to let go of it. Bitter sweet for sure. Over the years since I have driven by the house just to see how it’s doing. It wasn’t well cared for by the next few owners, but the last one has brought it back to full glory.
I was actually moved to stop and get out to talk with the man (not normally in my character) who was outside doing some work on it. I told him the story of the house and thanked him for restoring it so beautifully. It was truly a heart warming experience and I’m sure my family is appreciative as well. In fact I think it was them who made me drive by that day. Glad I did.

I sold the first home I had bought early this year. It’s a bittersweet moment in time…

A Chevy man. It used to be that the world was divided into three parts, Ford men, Chevy men, and Mopar men.

After my wife’s dad died we had to sell his house. It was tough, but we drive by it once in a while. Nothing has changed on the outside though.
