seems like a colossal waste, I would have thought they could’ve flown more of the aircraft out , and driven some of the other stuff to our ally? Pakistan
All heavy equipment, aircraft, track vehicles, big guns, are inoperable. The U.S. gives/lends/sells weapons, even to our allies, with a chip that we can disable from our satellites.
“ALL EQUIPMENT should be demanded to be immediately returned to the United States, and that includes every penny of the $85 billion dollars in cost.”
— Former president Donald Trump, in a statement, Aug 30
The Facts
The $83 billion figure — technically, $82.9 billion — comes from an estimate in the July 30 quarterly report by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) for all spending on the Afghanistan Security Forces Fund since the U.S. invasion in 2001.
The only functional equipment they have are gifts from the Afghan military that largely rolled over on their back for Taliban belly rubs.
The military equipment left by the USA will only be good for photo ops, as it will not be functional. It will be like all the pictures of broken down Russian tanks and vehicles that litters the Afghanistan landscape.
Taliban is already complaining about the disabled conditions that the U.S. military left that equipment in… the Taliban expected it to be gifts in prime working condition…
The equipment was reportedly disabled before we left. https://www.stripes.com/theaters/middle_east/2021-08-31/kabul-airport-us-military-equipment-abandoned-afghanistan-taliban-2730959.html

13,000 troops in Afghanistan when The Best Negotiator In Human History signed the treaty with the terrorists.
2,500 troops when Biden was inaugurated after the failed insurrection. And a sabotaged visa procedure.
And STILL 123,000 evacuated.

@DIF20, I agree, you are speaking of the insurrectionists on January 6th 2021.

The Taliban won’t be able to operate that equipment without proper maintenance and parts. American corporations aren’t greedy enough to supply them.
Are they?

I understand most of the equipment has been rendered useless, at least in the near frame of time. With some repair, they may be put back into use.

Maybe they’ll start an online, war surplus site?
I’ve been looking for a vehicle with a mess of wheels on it. Maybe pickup an APC at a good price? Shipping $$ might be a deal buster.

The military “unrecoverably destroyed” most of the military equipment they left behind.
Now they “need” to buy replacements – more $$$ for the Military Industrial Complex, straight from taxpayer’s pockets.

Pretty sure there are a few nations willing to take them apart for scrap (or the technology).

So Tim Campbell is one of those persons who value material objects over people. I guess that makes him a republican.

The USA military contractors loved the tax payer dollars to pay for it.

Doesn’t seem like Campbell has ever served in the military. Or, if he did, he never deployed.
One thing all military learn when they deploy is how to decommission equipment. Make it so that it doesn’t work anymore. We’re GOOD at it.
Yeah, the Taliban is parading around with a lot of gear, taking pictures, and guys like Jeff are quick to point and shout, “Shame!”
But that equipment isn’t going to work. Or, if they can coax it into operation, it won’t work long or fulfill it’s function.
Other than to serve as a propaganda tool for the, well, Republican tools.
