Not what I had in mind either. But no plan survives contact with the enemy, and ISIS-K is the enemy. Could Biden have done something to avoid this? Not very likely: He has no control over the Taliban who released 100s of prisoners. He had no control over the behavior of the Afghani army nor the government. He cannot tell soldiers not to get close to the civilians who are trying to get away because they have to check for… well, for what actually happened. Was it worth it to sacrifice those men? No and yes: No because there was no good reason at all to be there in the first place. Yes because we WERE there anyway, and getting loose was very important.
Bush hid the dead coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan.
To bad these brave young soldiers had to die getting us out of a place we should have never been. Along with all the others that were mained and killed during two wars that should have never happened.
It’s war. Don’t send your sons and daughters if you old guys are too cowardly to actually get in there and fight for the cause yourself because this is the inevitable result.
What a happy, happy day for Bok and other far right neocons when those Americans were killed. Otherwise they’d have had to contemplate a withdrawal from Afghanistan without loss of American life. Now they can wag their fingers and say, “Shame, shame!”
Those deaths weren’t the START Chip. They were the LAST. Remember that.
Well, until the next stupid, violent, senseless war.
Losing 13 brave soldiers who served this Nation does bring sadness and reverence. They gave the last full measure of devotion. Their service, and sacrifice, made their mission a success when no one thought it possible. Their commander-in-chief knew they could and knew they would. We finally have a president again, and a military that the world has never and can never match. Honor our heroes. Never forget.
This is EXACTLY the evacuation that Trump had in mind. Mr. " I alone can fix it" gave them everything they wanted Trumps peace deal was a surrender not a treaty. Now you want to blame Biden for keeping the treaty? Biden was in a terrible position, to keep a bad treaty or to put 20 to 30 thousand American Boots on the ground.
Yeah Biden was there but had other places to be. Gold Star families were not happy with Biden checking his watch every time a casket was removed from the plane. One father, Mark Schmitz was outraged after Biden checked the time again as the fourth coffin went by and said it was the most disgraceful thing he’d ever seen. Two of the families were so upset with Biden’s mishandling the Afghanistan withdrawal and the deaths of their children, that they declined to take part in the ceremony at Dover AFB.
The soldiers that were killed and their families can be proud that they facilitated the successful evacuation and protection of well over one hundred thousand people.
I do agree that President Biden would have preferred no American Soldier had died in the evacuation. That was his plan, but reminded people time and again that there was real danger in Kabul. Not because of the way the Republicans would exploit such a thing, but because he actually cares.
Seriously, the Republicans mocked President Biden when he called for a moment of silence, and bowed his head in respect of those fallen?
Republicans have made it clear they don’t know what patriotism really means. Probably, because they want patriotism to be what they say it is. Which, time and time again proves to be anything, but patriotic.
If I’m going to be mad at anyone, it’s going to be the many Americans and allied civilians that had been warned to leave for many months now, but waited until after the allied forces had left their bases. Shame on them.
I will not blame the Afghans that had hoped their government would protect their new and better way of life. I will not blame the Afghans that Trump’s administration made it hard if not impossible to achieve the appropriate visas since March of 2020.
We all knew this would be messing and not without risk.
I’ve airlifted the dead out of Afghanistan and then stood at attention inside our C-17 as the coffins were quietly removed one by one, as we listened to the sobs of families at Dover AFB. How about you, Chip?

Yet it’s a situation that has not been on the minds of most Americans for the past twenty years.

In the last 20 years, the percentage of total Bok cartoons about Afghanistan was even lower than the total percentage of Bok cartoons that didn’t LIE.
And virtually all Bok cartoons LIE. Like all the other Trump Disciples.

When you’re the last of an invading army leaving an active war zone bad things happen. That’s why it’s called a war zone.
