Remember the campaign in 2016 when tRump made his ‘Patton’ speech saying he would never announce when he would act giving the enemy any hint of his plans? Then ‘Art of the Deal’ tRump made the worst deal in our history telling the Taliban we’d leave if they didn’t shoot at us, and told them the time and date. tRump gave Afghanistan to the Taliban.
No.. go ahead and point fingers.. expose all the fraud and shenanigans that the trump team blessed on America. If you don’t.. they will return with lessons (that anything goes) learned.
One thing I learned as a Senior NCO. It is useless to blame failure on who had the job before you. The minute you accepted your position, it is job and your team. What happens from the minute you take control is either your achievement or your failure.
After Trump gloated about setting this plan into motion and that Biden couldn’t change it? Of course, the alt-rights try to reword what Biden says – he is taking full responsibility for what is going on currently, and is reminding us that he inherited the deal. Yeah, that’s a weaker position than I’d expect a President to take, but at least he isn’t totally denying responsibility (as Trump did several times during his administration).
Let’s put to bed the crazy talk about President Trump surrendering to the Taliban. The withdrawal from Afghanistan was something desired from just about everyone posting here. Every president from Bush, to Obama, then Trump and now Biden has negotiated with the Taliban on on level or another. There was no way to get out of Afghanistan without dealing with the Taliban and if anyone thinks there was, please tell us about that. There were three basic parties regarding those negotiations, our State department, the Afghan government and the Taliban. There were a few more interested parties such as our allies and Pakistan. I don’t think anyone liked the details, it was a sh!t sandwich from the start. Much has been made about those 5,000 talibs freed in a prisoner exchange. Stop and use your heads for a moment. When exactly do you think was going to happen with them once we left? For the smart ones here who think those prisoners were going to be freed once we departed, BANG, you get a gold star. At least with the prisoner exchange we got 1,000 of our allies freed so that was a win. As far as the May 1st deadline, it was no deadline just a planned timeline subject to change depending on conditions. If you know anything about President Trump you know he is famous for doing just that and in any case the Taliban violated those term so we were not bound to honor them.
But, that’s all irrelevant as Biden, like he has done with just about every decision and policy that President Trump put in place, trashed the May 1st departure date. Once he did that the entire responsibility for withdrawing from Afghanistan fell entirely on his shoulders. Doubly so because he also ignored all the planning and scenarios drawn up in coordination between the Trump administration and the Pentagon. Even Gen. Milley pleaded with Biden to use some of the planning done by the Pentagon and Intel services to no avail. President Trump has nothing to do with the Afghanistan debacle.
Yeah cause Conservatives haven’t been pointing fingers all this time saying DJT would’ve done a better job. Give us a break. Reality is the fall of Kabul would’ve occurred no matter what the moment it was agreed that US would stop supporting the Afghan military in order to conduct full withdrawal. No US president was going to change this outcome; only either accept responsibility (Biden) or run from it (Trump).
Joe got bad advice from both the DoD and State Dept. He made no attempt to ‘pass the buck’. He is man enough to take the hit full on and not deflect it to subordinates.
It seems Biden is responsible now for all the bad things that happen in the middle east. I wonder if he’s responsible for all the bad things that happen in the rest of the world also?
Actually, for the most part, you don’t see Biden casting blame or aspersions. Which is a VERY nice change from the prior occupant. But when he or his spokes-folks DO mention a cause for whatever trouble, they’re almost always telling at least a partial truth (politicians, after all) and often the complete truth, sometimes even with footnotes.
Gorrell, of course, is forbidden by the terms of his contract from saying anything about Biden that is better than “what a dunce” or “sleepy Joe”.
You have to wonder who exactly is in charge of Biden. Not a presser goes by that he doesn’t say something like “I’m not supposed to answer any questions”, or “I’ve been told to call on reporter XYZ first”.
Yesterday after finishing a teleprompter speech, as is normal the reporters started bombarding him with questions.
Biden paused then said, “I’m not supposed to take any questions, but go ahead.”
Reporter, “Mr. president, about Afghanistan…?”
Biden cut him off by saying “I’m not talking Afghanistan.” Then turned and walked away.
He’s obviously not competent to answer questions on the the complex issues surrounding Afghanistan. So again, who’s pulling his strings?
