Leaving Afghanistan is necessary, but this botched evacuation is a horror and I’m ashamed of my country because of it. That said, if Trump had been “in charge” the situation would be the same, except that 100% of the Afghans who had helped us would be left behind.

How many of the military officers who were responsible for the “training” of the Afghan soldiers do you think told Biden the honest truth; that the soldiers felt no loyalty at all to the government placed and supported in power by the US? How many of those soldiers were dragooned out of the mountain valleys where their families supported themselves by farming and had no contact with or knowledge of the “government” in Kabul? Had that government ever paved a road or provided a water supply for them? I’m sure Biden had assurances from the military that the Afghan army would hold together long enough for an evacuation, and I’m sure there were many officers who seriously doubted those assurances were justified.

America has never learned how to evacuate a country in which we have lost a war. Maybe we should quit starting wars we can’t or won’t win just so the arms manufacturers can get richer!

There’s no way this could have been any better. A retreat is always messy.

There was a short period of minimal violence and disruption and then THE STORY DIED.

Then ‘Art of the Deal’ tRump made the worst deal in our history telling the Taliban we’d leave if they didn’t shoot at us, and told them the time and date. tRump gave Afghanistan to the Taliban.

Their military and president abandoned their own country when they saw the Taliban running through their country and did nothing about it except run!We should go back and take over the whole country including their resources.
