The so-called Afghan government had twenty years—TWENTY YEARS!—to consolidate their power and prepare for the US leaving. The so-called Afghan army is collapsing before the US even leaves.
This tells us that, as with Vietnam, putting a corrupt clique with little support among the population in charge is not the answer, even if the ascendant power is as undesirable as Ho Chi Minh and the Taliban were/are.
Is Afghanistan totally ungovernable? A region of warlords and tribal associations? Empires go there to die—ask Alexander. The Romans didn’t even touch it (of course, Persia was in the way).

Broken teeth and indigestion are the rewards for those who gnaw on the gristle and rawhide of old battered Afghanistan.

Looks like the Taliban has already taken over the entire country.

This country will never become civilized. I feel bad for the women.

Thousands of years of terror and it’s not about to change for any country who thinks could change the core of evil…..

Kabul = Saigon V2.0
Did you expect more from Cheney the Dick or RummyDummy?
Full marks for consistency, though.
