Relative brought her young son along to visit for a few days. Boy was very afraid of dogs, so our golden retriever was kept away from him. One morning we couldn’t find the dog. He was in bed with the child and they were buddies after that.
I got that way about German Shepherds – after getting bit by two different males of the species (in fairness – I was innocently invading their territory.)
