Birds don’t have a single source for food. They will come and go. If you just set out a fixed amount at fixed intervals, they will adjust their schedule to fit. Leaving the feeders empty for a part of the day isn’t harmful. It takes a few weeks for them to accept a new feeder, and just as long to abandon an established one.

I feed mine every 2 or 3 days. They don’t have to be fed every day. I buy 50 pound bags of birdseed from Costco (if you have one near you). Cheapest bird seed I have found. They don’t care what it costs, they eat anything they can find. I also put fruit and veggies out sometimes. Today, I put out a couple of overripe bananas. Haven’t tried that before so will see how it goes.

BOO !!Cats & birds just don’t mix. If you like one probably you don’t need the other. If you don’t want to feed birds then just forget about them.
