Went out this afternoon in the 116 degree heat to fill up the bird bath, and apparently the Quail Family was back in the bushes. They came running out and Mr. Quail flew up on the roof and proceeded to chew me out. At full volume. I beat a hasty retreat. ( actually I wanted to spend as little time in that heat as possible.)
Speaking of heat, we broke an 80 year old record today. The last time it was 116 was 1940..
Global Garbage Man Day. It’s trash day in my neighborhood.
National Mascot Day
National Career Nurse Assistant’s Day
National Apple Strudel Day
National Cherry Tart Day
National Stewart’s Root Beer Day. They don’t sell that brand around here. But I have some A&W root beer in my fridge and I’d be happy to drink a can of that in honor of this day.
I thought I posted this last night but I don’t see it so maybe I didn’t.
Kittens: when we dropped them off this morning, I had photos and descriptions on my carrier. Dr Susan had descriptions on hers. I mentioned that one time I got the wrong ones back. Robyn said now that won’t happen because they keep the kittens in the carrier, take one out, do it then put it back. Great. No worries. We get home, unload them, I need to get out of my hot clothes so don’t really pay attention. Then Dr S calls. It seems I have her boy and she has my girl. (I was wrong on the sex of the two—all three are girls. oops. In my defense, those little nuts are hard to see)Mine is white with orange on its back. Hers is all white with an orange head. How about not even close? She wondered why mama and the others were hissing at the baby- then she looked at it. Brad just took this one back. When I went in to get it, the poor thing was hiding in the shower and the others wouldn’t eat their supper.I called and left a message for Robyn that the people up there maybe DON’T do what they say they do.I bet she checks the carriers next time. I got a text back from her saying we could swap today but I replied that Bradhad already taken the kitten to Dr S and brought us the other one. We didn’t want to wait…everyone wanted happy babies last night. When I took her in, I was surprised to see the other two had not eaten the third bowl of food. I guess they left it for her.Moose sat and cried for a LONG time to go in. I really didn’t want him in there; I wanted them to rest. I finally gave in.He went in, they all pounced on him. He sniffed and licked them and after a bit I kicked him out. He was fine. I swear, he just wanted to make sure they were ok.
Man, that is one big rat! Must be a ROUS. (Rodent Of Unusual Size.) On another note, saw five robins, four rabbits, and two damselflies while out walking today.

A rat bigger than an adult cat. He must be half possum. Yikes!

Who is that rescuer? Is it Snagglepuss, Garfield, Heathcliff, Top Cat, Sylvester? Enquiring minds want to know.
