I can just picture the mindset and conversations of anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers:
“See? See!!!?? We didn’t have to get vaccinated, and everything is working out just fine!!!”
And I guarantee you that they don’t consider for a millisecond that their “free ride” was on the backs of all the folks who did the right thing, believed the science, thought of their fellow human beings and did what needed to be done for the good of everyone.
Self centered, childish, defiant, politically based a-holes.
All of them.
(This includes a number of family members who I no longer care to associate with – they also buy into the “tourist event” on Jan. 6th)
I still would not celebrate with an ANTI-vaxer. That person shows disrespect for the people with immune deficiencies and young children…. I had to “deal” with a few at an elementary school cum polling place last week when I was working as an “election official” poll-worker.
The unvaccinated constitute a breeding area for new variants of the virus. If one emerges that is as contagious and lethal as the 1918/19 bug, it will sweep through them and they’ll be decimated.
Just wait til the newest strains take hold or an as yet undiscovered strain the vaccines aren’t as effective against. Nature may yet weed the fools from the human population…
US surpasses grim milestone with 600,000 lives lost to COVID-19
The number of Americans who have died from COVID-19 has now eclipsed 600,000, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, 15 months since the onset of the pandemic.
While rates are now very low (4-5 cases per 100,000 per day) it’s important to remember that this downward trend would end the disease if the protections were uniformly distributed. It is likely that there are local social enclaves or cohorts where the probability of transmission is much higher, due to the combination of not being vaccinated and behaving as thought everyone else is… What I wonder is how many local hot spots it will take before those enclaves adjust their thinking a bit.
I notice that’s a “clunk” but not a “clink”… which is appropriate. The Delta variant, now spreading worldwide, has a much larger R₀ than the original variant. The unvaccinated, even given that the US is now something like 50% vaccinated, may very well experience that herd immunity STILL isn’t enough. Though they can count on luck… until they can’t.

Sadly enough, both delusional. Disease isn’t gone, or cured.

But there are still the mutant strains running around maybe they will catch one of those.

That’s where those folks need to stay, out in the woods, far, far away from anyone else.

As they’re laying in the ICU, hooked up to machines & tubes, they will let out a final croak, “it wasn’t supposed to end this way!!!”

As long as they keep wearing those red caps, and Trump buttons, we can see them coming, and avoid contact.
