I have a notepad next to my microwave with the real times for common items, which I determined by trail and error. Never trust a built-in function label for things that can set your food on fire. Yes, popcorn WILL catch fire and it DOES smell awful.
There are small, medium, and large bags of microwave popcorn, and most microwaves were preprogrammed for large which burned the other two. My microwave’s button has S, M, and L settings.
