I would be curious to know what percentage of those who are choosing not to get the COVID vaccination would refuse immunizations for polio, mumps, measles, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, hepatitis, rotovirus, etc for their children? I realize that there is a small minority who make this decision based on religious purposes but surely this is a small sample of the anti-vaccine crowd. To me any vaccine is simple protection, just like a seatbelt or motorcycle/bicycle helmet; good common sense. Therefore libertarian idealism is not a valid argument when your decision can harm others.
For instance, imagine if a sizeable percentage of the population did not get a vaccination against measles or polio? Would there not be a rise in the number of infections? Some like the WHO and Unicef have suggested that the uptick in the number of measles infections in places like the US and UK could be attributed to vaccine hesitancy. This is simply not getting people vaccinated in an orderly faction. People who refuse to get the COVID will just increase the overall case numbers as time rolls on and if a certain percentage of the population has to be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity then refusing to vaccinate for COVID is indeed harming our society and will have last impact on the ability for our nation to recover.
In relation to this: RFK Jr. has put his $0.02 in and it caught the attention of Vanity Fair recently, it is an interesting read:
and ‘Yahoo’ spelling alternative is r-e-p-u-b….whoops! Maybe not politically correct but still true. And believable, since 47% of replunicans believe Tramp is the real president.
I can’t blame some people for deciding not to accept a vaccination that was approved in months and only given emergency approval. I would hope they’d be careful, though. My assistant has a somewhat rare blood disease that is kept under control with meds but her doctors cannot assure her that the vaccination will not disrupt the fragile balance and her ability to keep her disease in check. If she can’t, she will get very sick and possibly die. A friend of mine, a nurse, had a severe reaction to the flu shot that landed him in his own hospital for over a week. He’s not getting the covid vaccine. He and his doctor decided the risk is too high for him until there is more data and testing. I got mine but I felt the risks were low and the benefit was decent in my case.
Isn’t it ironic that the same people insisting on Voter ID and blocking “diseased” immigrants are the same people insisting on not wearing masks and getting fake vaccination forms?
You know, one could wish that stupid sorted itself out, but sadly that’s not true. Instead of getting their families and fellow idiots sick and then dying off, they will keep Covid-19 going and it will remain a problem for years.
Sometimes I feel like the smart kid in a class of dummies.
This “vaccination badge” thing is getting blown way out of proportion. The CDC suggested that employers consider placing a symbol on vaccinated employee IDs to make customers more comfortable about pandemic response at those businesses – and some people overreact by claiming that is State sponsored genocide!
And then you have people like someone I know personally who had a reaction to their first COVID shot and was told by the CDC to not take the second one. They are investigating it but until a solution, this person cannot be vaccinated.
Apparently, even the military has its share of anti-vaxxers… Wondering why they don’t refuse to wear the helmet on duty… Isn’t a lot more uncomfortable and heavy than a mask, no?
Anyone can run around with an unregistered hand gun in Texas these days without a permit. Republicans are lawless jerks and they are dragging this country backwards.
Getting take out last night, I watched a confrontation over masks. The place is still doing take-out only like it has for the last year. This guy refused to wear a mask while picking up his food. It is a family owned Chinese restaurant and the girl at the register explained they are still being careful because their mother has a compromised immune system from chemotherapy she recently finished. And then she asked him to please comply with wearing a mask inside the restaurant for that reason. The guy went into a rant at the girl, said something rude about the Chinese, said he didn’t want the food anymore and also said he wouldn’t be coming there anymore. I said, “I’m so sorry that happened to you.” She said that kind of reaction has happened many times over the last year and is happening more now that CDC changed recommendations. But her mother is more important to her than making some ***hole happy. I added a big tip to my payment.

Yeah, it is the best of times, it is the worst of times…
But we’ve ALWAYS had yayhoos. The differences now are:
= We’ve forgotten social skills
= Some of the yayhoos are armed
= In fact, not just “forgotten” social skills, but formed groups who actively encourage confrontations.
(sigh)

Would that silly “Stand Your Ground” law apply if you felt threatened by a non vaccinated neighbor? And, would skin color of either make a difference?

Ah, Theodore taking the MTG line. Both missed the email that exposure to UV light will determine whether you’ve been chipped by the vaccine!
