The situation in India is an interesting one. For a time, it looked like they had dodged the bullet of Covid. No doubt doctors were scratching their heads trying to figure out the India anomaly. But, then they participated in a massive gathering, evidently feeling they were protected from infection by one of the Hindu gods, and now they have a massive infection.
India is a case in point about the way Covid spreads. It needs a host to survive. When we mask, distance and wash we prevent the virus from getting hold of us. But, when we breathe a sigh of relief and open up our businesses and schools in trying to get back to “normal” then we provide the virus with a new set of homes in which to thrive.
Keep the faith, folks. Keep on masking, distancing, washing and now, vaccing. It’s the only way to beat the Covid virus.
But “herd immunity” and mass populations in outdoor spaces would have resolved the issues in India. I mean that’s what American Right Wing keeps telling us that’s why America should stop wearing masks nor get vaccinated.
And still big pharma and wealthy nations push back on waiving intellectual property rights for Covid vaccines. Money first, above all. Ain’t Capitalism grand?
India is a nation of contrasts and contradictions. On one hand it has one of the highest tech bases in the wold with a section of the populace being highly educated. On the other it has a large section of people living in abject poverty, ignorance and woefully uneducated. These people believe that bathing the highly polluted Ganges river will cure all ailments and diseases. A matter of their Caste system of course.
