When I was growing up it was usual for QBs to have 1 – 19, running backs to have 20 – 39, full backs to have 40 – 49, linesmen 50 – 79, wide receivers 80 – 99. On the defensive side defensive backs had 20 – 39, linebackers 40 – 59 and linesmen 60 – 99. It has since morphed into all backs 0 – 49 with some differential by position, everyone else 50 – 99. And now the NFL wants some order? NFL still stands for No Fun League.
