Not all training is “official”. A lot of it comes from observing the veteran officers. A lot of it comes from observing how supervisors react to various events and learning what they can get away with… Cops are a lot like kids, that way, right?
I once took a self defense course at the Y. The instructor told us the difference between a “strangle” and a “choke”. A strangle compresses the airway and cuts off air to the lungs. The person responds by getting hysterical due to the lack of air fights back violently with adrenaline backed strength. A choke cuts off the flow of blood to the brain, which starves the brain of oxygen, but the person doesn’t know it and doesn’t panic. The lack of oxygen to the brain interferes with the autonomic nervous system, which controls, among other things, the heart and lungs. The instructor demonstrated a choke hold (putting pressure on the side of the neck) but didn’t let us practice it because it is dangerous. He said that if it is applied to long (several minutes or more) it may require CPR type chest compressions to make sure that the other person has no lasting issues. The way Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck was a choke hold. If the police were taught this, they should have been taught the dangers and what to do about them. Also, pressure on the body keeps the chest from expanding, which also reduces the breathing (similar to the actions of a boa constrictor). Floyd was arrested for illegal activities, but the police are*NOT* supposed to kill suspects unless ABSOLUTELY necessary while they are committing violent crimes and there is no other option. Either Chauvin was NOT properly trained (and fault should be shared with the trainers) of he was and ignored the training.
The police have the strongest Unions in the USA, and Republicans encourage them. On the other hand, teachers Unions are under constant attack from the Republicans. Why is that, I wonder.
George Floyd was already handcuffed before Officer Chauvin choked him to death. There were 3 additional officers standing around while this occurred. What’s wrong with this picture?
I sure wish that someone would point out that he was playing pocket pool the whole time he was killing that man… Not only that but he appointed himself judge, jury and executioner …….
His actions and reactions set aside (not that I’d do that for a nanosecond) Chauvin has a defense that couldn’t be made worse even by Rudy Giuliani joining it.

It appears the police rank and file disagree and resent that defense.

Most of the criminals in this country wear badges, and wear uniforms, and are racists, and bullies, and trigger happy. , they belong in jail.

Sadly, this is much more accurate then a LOT of people want to believe.

We, as a country, can do better, if we, especially a whole bunch of white people, decide to be brave.

It was not ok what this cop did, but was it ok that the man was on drugs and incoherent before he passed a bogus bill to a clerk?

Officer Chauvin is a proud graduate of Trump U. He really looked good in that white sheet and hood as he marched on stage to receive his diploma!

Those 2 rookies that were with him were getting the “unofficial” training in how to handle blacks. And , yes, I will bet that is how he was trained!

Love the hands in the pockets and the ‘I don’t give a toss’ look on his face. Well done Clay.
