They’ll get the canal unplugged long before they’ll get the disenfranchisement laws unplugged.

republicans don’t care about what the Constitution says, or what the framers intended (actually they are very afraid of what the framers intended for our Country). They just want ANY AND ALL power they can take for themselves.

Republicanism is dying a particularly ugly death. Take note of Missouri. The republican legislature has just refused to acknowledge a change in their constitution allowing hundreds of thousands of Missourians to acquire health insurance via Medicaid. It was passed by a special state-wide vote by a 53% margin, and the legislature has just said they don’t care what the vote was – it ain’t happening!

We are quickly but quietly losing our democracy to the autocrats of the G.O.P. !

I know this cartoon isn’t really about the Suez situation, but only uses it as a metaphor, but nobody seems to be cartooning about the canal situation itself, in spite of its serious impact on international commerce. So I’ll comment on it here.

Although there have been relatively recent expansions of some parts of the canal (the most recent opened in 2015), the canal in its entirety has not been widened and deepened to keep pace with the massive increase in the size of ships traveling through it. It seems to me that allowing the entry of any ship that is longer than the narrowest width was an accident waiting to happen, not something that could not be foreseen.
