" … We rate this claim FALSE because it is not supported by our research. There’s room for debate over exactly how much of the $1.9 trillion is related to the pandemic. It’s surely not all of it. But this claim bungles a widely circulating 9% stat.
More than 99% of the American Rescue Plan is going to Americans, though some of that falls in the category of political “pork.” An analysis by a nonpartisan group found that about 85% of the bill is related to the coronavirus pandemic.
The 9% figure is actually what is going to fund direct disease containment measures such as vaccines, testing and tracing, and other public health initiatives. …"
Mr. Breen is, I guess, not among those in line for food banks, who are down to their last few bucks and near being homeless, who have lost their businesses, or…..:$300 per north in unemployment its a sick joke.
Cough cough…2017 tax cut adding $1.9 trillion to the deficit…I love how the Republicans fought against it because it benefitted mostly the uber-rich, not everyday Americans…/s
What “pork spending”? Oh, I get it: when Dems have a bill,it’s pork; when Repubs have a bill it’s necessary, like giving tax relief to all those poor one percenters.
The republicans called for a reading of the bill, when it was finished they went home exhausted.
While the were no republicans in the room, Dems were able to pass a number of things such as Schumer calling cloture on Garland. This means there will be no arguments heard from the republicans on Garland, there will be a straight up and down vote and Dems have the vote.
the Catholic Church feeds the hungry…helps with day care…provides shelter to the homeless…ministers to those in need….provides free quality education at no cost to those who cannot afford school…helps clothes and shelter battered women and children…gives food to those in need…in addition to ministering to those in mental distress…what have you done for your fellow man….besides preach without real action…what sacrifice have you made…maybe it’s time to start…put on a mask and do something for someone less fortunate without looking for reward…
Both parties attach pork to bills, and the more popular the main parts of a bill are the more pork they attach. But the party who didn’t draft the original bill always squawks about the pork… totally predictable – politics is more important than helping the citizens…
As you complain about the church receiving PPP (which is a loan), how about the congress giving themselves a pay raise in the first stimulus bill? Or $25 million to the closed JFK center and another $25 million in the next bill. Or the billions of dollars that went to foreign countries? Like a billion dollars to Pakistan for gender studies? And we got $600…
Pork is HOW bills make it through the process. It’s unpleasant, but it’s perfectly real. And, just in passing, Pork is famously associated with BOTH parties, even though the larger and least useful stuff seems to be slightly tilted toward the right (and even more tilted toward “time in office”, because apparently, it takes some time to figure out how to do it… or find friends to help… or something).
Go tell your friendly local senator or representative (at any level) that you want to get their “news” emails. Every one will talk about bringing home some benefits to their state or district. Every time. (They’ll also ask for money). “Benefits for my district” are exactly “pork”. Though some of them are more beneficial than others.

In 2020, 3 billion dollars was given to the Catholic church, part of the PPP. Like, the Catholic church is so poor. What about that, Mr. Breen?

It’s not pork if it’s shoveled at billionaires. Tax cut. Deregulation. Mineral rights give aways.

Is there excessive pork in the covid relief bill?

I don’t get it Steve. You’ve been bowing down to your liberal overlords for too long to show you have a spine now.

And what about the so-called Tax Reform Act of 2017? Or the 2018 Omnibus Spending Bill? No pork there?

I see no specifics here. Does Mr. Breen know of what he speaks?

Wow, like that is new. Try to keep up please.

No, it’s true. The stimulus bill will raise half of America’s poor children out of poverty.
What a waste of money.

I suppose spending all that on the little people and small businesses is pork to the corporations and billionaires that already for theirs earlier.

Is all that pork going to help American’s remain fed, sheltered and allow children to attend school during a pandemic? yes, yes it will.

Spending money to help the peasants is what the @GOP considers to be “pork”. Tax cuts for billionaires is just “good business sense”….

I don’t think it has much pork.
