Sports talk shows would still operate under those conditions even if all they had were the final scores. Conjecture works even better without the facts to confuse things.
NFL coaches and GMs are so enamored with the idea of the John Elway/Peyton Manning quarterback prototype (6’4 or 5, rifle arm) that they can’t admit to themselves that other options might work. (Elway himself obviously can’t admit that, as his only QB drafting criteria seems to be “six-foot-four-or-taller.”)
The Ravens won a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer and the Eagles won with Nick Foles, and they never got better when they switched to Elvis Grbac and Carson Wentz.
It’s a team game. Sometimes the chemistry is great even if the quarterback isn’t.
What could the Eagles have done if they had doubled down on Foles and traded Wentz for draft picks/defensive help?

The talk of “Wentzylvania” has died down considerably since 2017. “Wentziana?”
